The only two forces acting on the conical pendulum are the tension exerted by the string, and the usual force of gravity, if the pendulum is travelling at constant speed in a circle.

A very similar system is a car on a banked track. Here the normal force exerted by the track plays the same role as the tension in the string of the conical pendulum!
